Most of the energy we use today to help power industry, vehicles, and
appliances for everyday living come from the combustion of fossil
fuels. Fossil fuels release energy in the form of carbon. This carbon is
of organic origin, and dead organic m...atter, accumulating and forming
layers under the surface of the earth over millions of years, forms
fuels like petroleum. These sources of energy are called non-renewable
as they will not last forever and human beings are using them up, fast!
Examples of renewable sources of energy are wind, water, biomass and
solar energy. They are called renewable as the energy from these
sources can be harvested and it doesn’t run out, at least not till the
sun dies, which is billions of years away!
