This video explains how the ethnic groups in the Soviet Union suffered. The suffering of the Kalmyk is shown and how Stalin was suspicious of them and decided to deport them to Siberia. The secret police entered their houses and deported them in a vi...olent way. Even Kalmyk men who had fought in defense of Stalingrad were deported. Other ethnic groups were also deported. Many of them died as they were transported by train in freezing weather. Meanwhile, the German army was moving westwards. There is footage and former soldiers and survivors' accounts. There is reference to Hitler's attitude towards the Hungarian Jews and the way they were treated. The most brutal Jewish deportation and murder is described. The Hungarian Jews were sent to Auschwitz. There is also reference to the events in Romania, too.

Part 11 of the documentary sums up how Stalin planned to attack the German invaders in Ukraine. He had demanded action but the result was a disaster. The Soviets outnumbered the German but they were not well equipped. The video then shows how the Sov...iet learnt to win. Hitler is shown on his trip to the east to congratulate his troops. There is an explanation of Hitler's operation Blue to try to get hold of Stalingrad. The Germans advanced successfully but the Red army had new tactics. Few Soviets were taken prisoners. The Soviets moved their troops and the German were not close to the supply lines any more. Hitler named supreme commander of the army that was thousands of miles away. There was disillusionment on the senior commanders.

This part of the documentary begins with former soldiers' accounts about the battle of Stalingrad. There is footage of the battle and an explanation of the way in which it developed. The prisoners were taken to be interrogated. There is a former woma...n soldier retelling her participation in the interrogations and the way in which she killed some of the prisoners. The video goes on to show Soviet industry production. There is reference to Stalin's' discussions on what to do to defeat the German. The decisive operation is explained.

This part of the documentary begins with Stalin about to give a speech at the time he knew they were winning the war. You can hear the bell ringing to order everybody to stop clapping as nobody dared be the first to stop. There is also reference to G...erman propaganda and the kind of media the German had access to. The situation was almost hopeless for the German by spring 1945. German pilots tried to stop the Red Army but were not successful. They took part in a suicide mission but they were destroyed before reaching the target. There are first witness accounts of the events and footage. The Red Army reached Berlin as there were different Soviet groups at times they even shot each other. A week later most of Berlin was in Soviets' hands. German resistance finally fell. The Red army now controlled most of the capital cities in Eastern Europe.

There is footage of the bombardment on Stalingrad. Stalin know they could not lose this battle and... people were not allowed to leave. There are accounts of survivors who were children at the time of the war. The Red army was pushed to the river and many drowned trying to reach the other bank. According to recently found evidence, about 1 million soldiers died on the banks of the Volga river. There is a description of the Soviet leader show led the group at Stalingrad defence.
