Viajar por el espacio es una tarea extremadamente peligrosa. Visto desde la tierra, parece que el universo está en absoluta quietud. Todo lo contrario, es extremadamente violento y está en movimiento a velocidades inimaginables. (23:00)

NASA's Swift satellite has acquired the highest-resolution view of the neighboring spiral galaxy M31. Also known as the Andromeda Galaxy, M31 is the largest and closest such galaxy to our own. It's more than 220,000 light-years across and lies 2.5 mi...llion light-years away in the constellation Andromeda. Between May 25 and July 26, 2008, Swift's Ultraviolet/Optical Telescope (UVOT) acquired 330 images of M31 at wavelengths of 192.8, 224.6, and 260 nanometers. The images represent a total exposure time of 24 hours. Some 20,000 ultraviolet sources are visible in the image, including M32, a small galaxy in orbit around M31. Dense clusters of hot, young, blue stars sparkle in the disk beyond the galaxy's smooth, redder central bulge. Star clusters are especially plentiful along a ring about 150,000 light-years across. A comprehensive study of hundreds of galaxies observed by the Keck telescopes in Hawaii and NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has revealed a surprising pattern to galaxy evolution that extends back 8 billion years, or more than half the age of the univer...se. (03:40)

All across the immense reaches of time and space, pace, energy is being exchanged, transferred, released, in a great cosmic pinball game we call our universe. How does energy stitch the cosmos together, and how do we fit within it? We now climb the p...ower scales of the universe, from atoms, nearly frozen to stillness, to Earth's largest explosions. From stars, colliding, exploding, to distant realms so strange and violent they challenge our imaginations. Where will we find the most powerful objects in the universe? (25:07)

This short video is part of the series "Ask the Astronomer." The question proposed is the title isn't as simple to answer as you might think! The Andromeda Spiral Galaxy is one possible answer (it's about 2,000,000 light years away from us). However,... there are also several dwarf galaxies which are much closer (as close as 25,000 light years away). Watch this short video for the details. Run time 02:34.

Is it possible for distant galaxies to be moving away from us faster than the speed of light? And if it is would it be possible for us to see them? Surprisingly the answer to both questions is a resounding YES. How is that possible? How can something... travel faster than the speed of light? Today we will try and paint an accurate picture of the Universe based on the Lambda-Cold-Dark-Matter model, which is the best cosmological model today. Once we have painted that picture, the answers to our questions will be straightforward. Video starts with the history of the Earth and the different theories behind its beginning. Detailed video for older students. Run time 12:55.
