In this video segment from Between the Lions, Rhymo, a hip-hop-singing rhinocerous, can't stop thinking about the letter "c." Rhymo and his hip-hop-singing hippopotamus friend, Hip, rap about the hard "c" and soft "c" sounds, giving examples of objec...ts that use the hard "c" (like candy) and the soft "c" (like celery). They also sing about the difference between the country and the city, using "c" phrases like cool breeze, clean air, cinder blocks, and cement. Hip has never been to the country and Rhymo has never been to the city, so they decide to collaborate and go on a world tour through the country and the city. Featured vocabulary includes country, city, cosmic, collaboration, celebration and other "c" words. This video segment provides a resource for Fluency, Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Language and Vocabulary Development, Letter Knowledge Awareness, and Phonological Awareness. (1:07)

This video is a phonics chant to help students practice and review their phonics and alphabet at home. Each letter is shown on the screen first in upper and lower case. Then the sound of each letter is made. Finally, the letter name and sound are ...stated with a picture of an item beginning with the designated letter and sound. For example, M, /m/, mouse. The letters are easy to see and the sounds are clearly made, making this great for phonics practice.

A non-traditional alphabet song--a sort of rap song, with colorful letters (and not much else), that gives the sounds of the letters, NOT their names. The singer add vowel sounds to many of the letters so that "h" becomes "huhh." This can be confusi...ng for some learners.

"Hip Hop Alphabet" sings about the alphabet in a different, fun way. Some of the lyrics include--"Get ready, get set, hop to the alphabet". The letters of the alphabet are displayed on screen while the singer says each one. The song is repeated sever...al times. This would be a good teaching resource for young students. (1:36)
