One part of a writer's job is to make a report interesting for his or her
readers. First, they write a first draft, then they read it and think
about how to make it better. Writers revise their work, adding details
and checking to make sure that... their changes make sense. Watch a video about dogs and work on writing and revising a dog report. On their own, students are encouraged to pick an animal to write about, write a first draft, then revise their report.

Eleven-year-old published author and seasoned presenter Adora Svitak talks about the Six Traits: Word Choice. She discusses how using a variety of words makes a more interesting, vivid picture in the readers mind. She also talks about how specific w...ords are more interesting than general words. When using specific words you give the reader more details and then can visualize the version of the story you are trying to tell. Many times specific words stir up emotions. Verbs, adjectives, and adverbs can be specific too. She says that you will have to rewrite your paragraph to make it more interesting. Video is good quality; it is done in Power Point format. Great explanation of how word choice can make your writing better. Video can be stopped and can be discussed. Good for writers in grades three through middle school. (10:23)

He says: If you remember your PUGS, then you're going to create a better piece of text. People take you more seriously, and you will c...ome across as a professional if you are using proper Grammar. (Note: At the time of this recording, there was a 'live' chat at the bottom of the screen.) (07:40)
