El 9 de enero del 49 César, procedente de las Galias, tomaba la grave decisión de cruzar el Rubicón, riachuelo que marcaba el límite de su jurisdicción. En poco tiempo conquista Roma y toda la península itálica. Pompeyo y parte de los senadores huyen... a Grecia. César se dirige entonces a Hispania, venciendo a los partidarios de Pompeyo en Ilerda. Tras regresar a Roma, se encamina a Epiro donde, después de un primer revés en Dyrrhachium, se encaminó hacia Farsalia. Allí se producirá la gran batalla entre Pompeyo y César. (2:44)
