WARNING: THIS 8 MINUTE VIDEO RECREATES A KIDNAPPING SCENE AND SHOWS HOW AFRICANS WERE TAKEN FROM THEIR HOMES AND SOLD AS SLAVES. IT NAY NOT BE EASY TO WATCH AND MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN. After they were illegally kidnapped from their famil...ies, Africans were sent to the “new world” on ships characterized by unspeakably bad conditions. People were sold, at auction, as slaves.
In 1839, fifty-three such individuals were part of a sale in Havana, Cuba. Purchased by two Spaniards, the Africans were transferred to a ship called La Amistad. They would soon be caught-up in a legal battle which further pushed America toward civil war. This video does an excellent job showing the the brutality and ordeal of the slave trade as well as the uprising. A preview is a must.

Slavery by Another Name starts with the history of a brick factory that was manned by slaves. The narrator explains how his search for some of the past history of the community and the men who built the city provided access to relatives who worked at... the brick factory and even one who killed them. Excellent insights into some of history that is often overlooked. There is a description of death in the video. Highly recommended for middle and high school students as it provides as example of how difficult it is to find the facts in history. (17:55)
