Understand the origin of theatre.  Understand that storytelling serves as a foundation for early performance experience.  Expand knowledge of theatre history through dramatic literature.  Identify and differentiate various theatre styles from cultures, times, and places.  Relate historical perspective to each artistic activity.  Recognize how plays represent the time periods in which they are set.  Know the extent to which vocal expression is shaped by culture, regional dialect, peer group pressure, technological change, and public example.  Recognize that theatre can communicate the artistic, social, political, religious values and accomplishments of cultures, times, and places.  Analyze the social impact of historical and cultural events on theatre in general as well as on individual dramatic work.  Know that works of theatre from other cultures, times, and places convey universal characters and situations.  Explain how culture affects the content and production values of dramatic performances.  Expand knowledge of theatre history, recognizing styles of theatre productions and representative theatre artists.  Know how technology has affected theatre throughout history.  Analyze the development of dramatic forms and traditions across cultures and historical periods and explain influences on contemporary theatre and theatre-derived media.
