Once you have registered your new Mac and have gotten to the desktop you will notice icons are in a dock at the bottom of your screen. You will see a finder icon which works like windows explorer, opening things in a different window. There is a da...shboard icon and a mail icon. Next is the icon for Safari which is the browser. iChat allows you to have audio and video chats. The iTunes icon lets you sync all your iTunes. There are other basic icons that are discussed. (5:37)

How To Optimize Your Mac's Performance. Learn how to turn off login items and useless widgets to optimize your Mac's performance with these steps.
Step 1: Remove startup items
Remove unneeded startup items. Click the apple, go to System Preference...s, and click on Accounts. Go to the Login Items tab, and deselect any applications that you don’t want to launch every time you login.
Step 2: Shrink dock
Step 3: Turn off sharing
Turn off Sharing under Internet, and Network in System Preferences, if you are not networking between multiple computers.
Step 4: Remove other applications
Step 5: Turn off widgets
Step 6: Delete unused files

Go to the Spotlight function by pressing the Command key while you tap the Space bar. Click on Keyboard and Mouse in the drop-down list – the dialog box that pops up lists shortcuts.
Hit the Command and the comma keys to open the Finder preferences....
Take and save a picture of your screen.
Press the F9 key to tile open windows on the desktop, and again to return them to their original positions.
Zoom in by pressing Command, Option and the plus/equal sign.
Reverse this action, using the Option-Command combination with the minus sign.
Highlight everything in a document using the Command and the “A” key. You can do the same to highlight characters in a text field as well.
Use Control-Command and Delete to close everything and restart the machine

How to Run Software Update:
To actually update your software, you'll need to run Software Update. Here's how:
1.From the Apple menu, select Software Update.
If new software is available, quit all running applications and unplug all items BUT your... mouse and keyboard.
