It explores all of the different combinations of melody and rhythm that could be made in one measure of music (4 beats in 4/4 time), and then in just 8 notes. It also explores how many different combinations of sound could be electronically stored, u...sing bits, in one five minute song. All of these numbers are astronomically high - which seems to prove that there will never come a time when all the possible music has been written. However, he also explores the fact that humans are wired to only like certain types of music - such as certain chord progressions and certain rhythms - and that most songs sound alike because of this gravitation to the common. Therefore, the answer to the questions of running out of music becomes more vague. (11:48)
