South Carolina Flag and Anthem

The South Carolina flag history: Asked by the Revolutionary Council of Safety in the fall of 1775 to design a flag for the use of South Carolina troops, Col. William Moultrie chose a blue which matched the color of their uniforms and a crescent which reproduced the silver emblem worn on the front of their caps. The palmetto tree was added later to represent Moultrie's heroic defense of the palmetto-log fort on Sullivan's Island against the attack of the British fleet on June 28, 1776.  South Carolina anthem: “Carolina”, written by Henry Timrod and composed by Anne Custis Burgess.  With this video you can see the flag and hear the anthem.  Good for all students.

Cliff Hanger and the Sneezing Zebu

In this video segment from Between the Lions, Cliff hears a sneezing zebu and engages in conversations with him. The zebu explains that he is a bull that comes from Asia and has “snazzy-looking horns!” Cliff is pulled up to safety by grabbing the zebu's horns. Cliff is temporarily rescued from the cliff but mistakenly offers the zebu a red hanky (to wipe his nose). The zebu’s bull like tendencies are triggered by the color red.
