Post War Tension and Triumph Unit 19
From learner.org, produced by Annenberg Media/Learner.org
This unit examines the tensions of the Cold War era, reflected in
divergent dichotomies: a growing suburban, white, middle-class and
increasingly ghettoized blacks and Latinos; a faith in scientific
progress contrasted with a fear of the bomb; and an idealization of
individualism tempered by an anti-Communist call for conformity.
Individuals and groups raised their expectations for equality as
veterans returned from the global conflict of World War II.

Causes of the Civil War
From teachertube.com
This 12-minute video contains very intense photos. It is an excellent overview of the causes of the Civil War. Students would benefit from a word wall as some of the terms may be new to them. The route of the Underground Railroad would be good, too, as well as a map of the USA at that time listing free and slave states.

Auschwitz and the Final Solution: World War Two Germany Concentration Camp
From awesomestories.com, produced by BBC
This ten minute video discusses the planning and beginnings of Auschwitz and Birkenau; originally planned to house Soviet prisoners of war, considered sub-human by the Nazis and treated extremely poorly. Most did not survive. Auschwitz was designed to cram as many people into each barrack as possible; eventually, 744 people
were crammed into each. Later, the bombing of Hamburg by the RAF provided the Nazis an opportunity to blame the Jews, later leading to Jewish persecution and the slaughter of millions of Jews. The video needs to have a teacher explain in more detail what happened at the camps in terms of what the students can best understand.
