Bluetoes the Christmas Elf - Part 1
From YouTube, produced by Lacewood Productions
Bluetoes the Christmas elf is a wonderful story about an elf who does not fit in with the others; his only real friend is a penguin. On Christmas Eve, Bluetoes sneaks onto Santa's sleigh so that he can see his penguin friend home safely. Bluetoes goes into to a house to keep warm while waiting for Santa. In this house there is a little boy and a little girl who are too poor to even have stockings, so Bluetoes takes of his socks, hangs them up as stockings and fills them with toys. Bluetoes is waiting outside for Santa in his bare feet, his toes turn blue and that it is why they call him Bluetoes. (09:18)

I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas
From YouTube
Gayla Peevey, from Oklahoma, sang this song in 1953, at the age of 10. She encouraged children to send in their pocket change in order to get her a hippopotamus, which she would in turn give to the OKC Zoo. She raised enough money, $3,000, and on Christmas Eve in 1953 the first baby hippo arrived--Matilda. Many people visited the zoo on Christmas Day 1953 to see Matilda, the first hippo to ever grace the doors of the zoo. Matilda lived at the OKC Zoo with her husband, Norman, who arrived in 1967, until 1998. In January 1998 they decided to move Matilda and her husband to Disney World's Zoo. 30 year old Norman acclimated to his crate first and was moved to Florida. In February 1998, at the age of 48, they crated Matilda and attempted to move her to Florida. Unfortunately, she died in route.
