Groundhog's Day is celebrated in United States and Canada on February 2nd. In weather lore, if a groundhog, also known as a woodchuck, marmot or ground squirrel, emerges from its burrow on this day and fails to see its shadow because the weather is cloudy, winter will soon end. If the groundhog sees its shadow, it will return into its burrow, and the winter will continue for six more weeks. This video reviews the history of this day. (03:40)

A groundhog bursts into song about hibernation, then a chipmunk sings about semi-hibernation, followed by a duet with a woodpecker. There are also appearances by a butterfly, caterpillar, spider, deer, and hummingbird. Silly song that students will enjoy. On Groundhog Day, a bunch of men, wearing suits and top hats, pull a groundhog out of a hole in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. They then read a scroll the groundhog supposedly wrote, that states whether or not it saw its shadow. This determines if winter will last another six weeks, or if spring is coming soon. It's a bit of an odd tradition, but a similar practice has been taking places for centuries. (03:06)
