Autumn Leaves are Falling Down
From YouTube, produced by Cullen's ABC
For preschoolers this is a song about leafs falling from a tree. Color recognition and number skills are used. Singing songs with your child is wonderful for many reasons. The most important reason is that singing is it is fun and children love to sing. Songs are great for increasing vocabulary and pronunciation. Using hand and body movements with songs and rhymes helps preschoolers learn to control their bodies. There is even research that has shown that children who are actively involved in music do better in reading and math when they start school, are better able to focus and control their bodies, play better with others and have higher self-esteem. So, sing a song now! (01:20)

Five Little Leaves Felt Board Activity
From YouTube, produced by Cullen's ABC
For children or kids this is a rhyme about five leafs and is done with a felt board. Color recognition and counting skills are incorporated.
Rhymes are central to building children language skills. Many rhymes and songs are rhythmic and the language is often repetitive, which helps preschoolers build their language skills. Using hand and facial actions with rhymes help children identify words more easily e.g. 'clap your hands'. The best thing about rhymes is that they are free, and can be done anywhere and at anytime!
