This classic Sesame Street video teaches young learners the basic parts of a tree. Grover tries to teach campers about the parts of a tree but the campers have to correct him. Key words include trunk, bark, branch, and leaves. This video would compliment the Common Core K-1 text exemplar story A Tree Is A Plant by R.C. Bulla and other non-fiction texts on this topic. Leek doesn't like the rain falling on his leaves, which is not a good thing when you're one of the only things left in the veggie patch in rainy March. He searches fruitlessly for somewhere to hide from the rain, but all the good places are used up by other people who are really enjoying the rain and mud. Eventually the rain stops and he realizes that the rain has actually cleaned and shined up his leaves. (02:03)

This video clip is the fourth episode in the Principles of the Constitution Mini-Series. This video clip focuses on the Judicial Branch, otherwise known as the Supreme Court. Article III of the Constitution, which establishes the Judicial Branch, leaves Congress significant discretion to determine the shape and structure of the federal judiciary. Where the Executive and Legislative branches are elected by the people, members of the Judicial Branch are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. The Judicial Branch has the least amount of political power given by the Constitution. The Supreme Court is designed to make sure all other government officials are playing fair; however, they do not oversee impeachment cases of officials. The end of this informational video contains a series of five questions covering the material learned throughout the clip. (10:18)

In this video, teenage students will be introduced to "The Pull of Gravity" by Gae Polisner. Summary--Nick Gardner's life is falling apart. His dad is fat. Too fat. But Nick still doesn't know what to think when Dad leaves town to walk off the weight and pursue some destiny that doesn't seem to include the rest of the family. Meanwhile, The Scoot, Nick's best friend, is dying from an incurable disease. And Scooter's last wish is crazy: find his own long-lost father and return the signed first edition of Of Mice and Men that his father gave him before he took off.
Before Nick knows what's happening, he and the quirky Jaycee are off on an odyssey of their own to track down Scooter's dad—and to discover a little something about themselves, their friendship, and growing up in the process. This is a great resource for motivating upper grade readers. (01:32)

This read-aloud is Don't Grown-Ups Ever Have Fun? written by Jamie Harper. Grown-ups, it seems, just can't relax. "Poor Mom and Dad," three energetic youngsters say, "Why can't they be like us?" These parents rush around from the minute they get up until night, but their children prefer to lounge in a bubble bath with toys and shampoo spikes in their hair. The adults want neatly raked leaves, but the kids see the pile as ready for jumping into and scattering. Hearing their children ask the title question, mother and father mull it over, and are soon playing with their pasta alongside their offspring. There is a play button to get story started and a pause button on each page. Each word is highlighted as the speaker reads. This is a wonderful resource to help build a literacy rich environment in the classroom. It would also be beneficial for struggling readers and/or special education students.

On the class' first "normal" field trip to the zoo, they wonder how the animals could live in the city. Ms. Frizzle then turns the kids into various city animals (Tim, Arnold, and Phoebe into foxes; Ralphie, Wanda, and Keesha into possums; Dorothy Ann and Carlos into peregrine falcons, and Ms. Frizzle a raccoon), but the bus thinks it's a bear, and with Liz inside, leaves the class. Worse, the city authorities are after the bus, thinking that it is a lost animal needing to return home. Will the class make it to the bus in time, or will they be animals forever? (22:00)

Students learn that a stem-and-leaf plot is set up as a
two-column table with stems of the given numbers on one side and the leaves of the given numbers on the other. The stem of a number is the digit or digits on the left side of the number, and the leaf of a
number is the final right-hand digit. Students also learn that a
frequency chart is a table that lists each member of a data set along
with the number of times (the frequency) that the member appears.

With some very simple equipment and knowledge of basic math it is possible to estimate the power output of the sun. This video describes the process and explains the calculations. The video leaves a challenge: use the results to calculate the total energy arriving at the earth each second and using E=mc^2, calculate the mass loss of the sun. Do NOT look directly at the Sun. In this video from the WPSU’s series Outside, a staff member at Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center at Penn State University explains how being able to identify trees can make a winter walk through the woods more enjoyable. First, you can classify a tree into one of two groups: a conifer that holds its leaves or needles year round, or a deciduous tree that drops leaves annually. Next, observe each tree's characteristics: the type of bark, the branching pattern of a twig, the shape of a bud, and the appearance of fruit or seeds. Closed captioning included. Run time 03:56.

This short video gives excellent real life footage of the spring flowering plant, Cowslip. The cowslip is a well-known spring flowering plant, which was once much more common than it is today. The crinkled green leaves are covered on both sides with a fine layer of downy hairs; they form rosettes, which tend to lie close to the ground. This is a great resource to help build background knowledge and to help make real world connections between nature and the classroom. (0:38)
