34 Simple Machines Demonstrate a Transfer of Energy
From pbslearningmedia.org, produced by PBS
Imagine the most complicated process you could go through to simply pour a glass of milk. Then multiply that by 10. The image in your mind is probably approaching the level of complexity the ZOOM cast members achieved with their milk-pouring machine. Watch as they demonstrate all 34 steps in this video segment adapted from ZOOM. This would be a great addition to a lesson on transfer of energy or types of potential energy.  There are several examples of gravitational energy as well as elastic energy (in the stretched balloons), chemical energy (in the battery, electrical connection, and vinegar/soda reaction), and wind energy (in the fans). You might have students shout out which type of energy is involved at the various points of the demonstration. Closed captioning included.  (05:05)
