Parsnip is delighted to wake up to a snow-covered veggie patch, and wastes no time playing with the snow. But then he throws a snowball at what he thinks is a horrible monster! Scared to bits, he runs to find Big Parsnip, but is reassured when he finds out it is only a snowman. Parsnip then has the joy of making his very own Snow Parsnip. (02:06)

In this video, Pexi the Alien asks Alexi what makes snow. Alexi explains that snow is what forms when water vapor is cooled to the freezing point quickly. Water vapor is water in the form of gas. Water can also be liquid and a solid. Content is appropriate for elementary students and would work well in conjunction with a lesson/unit/story on seasons and/or winter.

"Sun, Rain, Wind, and Snow" is a folk song for children that explains different types of weather. In each verse four characters set out in their balloon to explore all the fun things you can do when it's sunny, rainy, windy, or snowy. This is a great introduction for children to learn about the 4 seasons. ESL teachers can pair the weather words with the season - e.g. "sunny" with "summer", "rainy" with "spring", "windy" with "fall", and "snowy" with "winter". (02:26)

Use the materials and visual step by step directions (no audio) on screen to create this cute snow woman. This is a fun activity for home and for school. Teachers could easily make patterns to use with younger students. This would be a great culminating activity to use in the elementary classroom after reading fiction and non-fiction texts about winter, holidays, etc. (4:35)

This short video gives excellent real life, close up footage of an adult Snowy Owl hunting and catching food for its babies. Perhaps one of the most instantly recognizable of all owls, the snowy owl is characterized by its distinctive white plumage, which gives it good camouflage against the snow. This is a great resource to help build background knowledge and to help make real world connections between nature and the classroom. (1:03)

This video shows footage that was shot at Mount Washington Observatory on March 6, 2007. Water was boiled to a temperature of approx. 200F and then thrown into the air which was at -35F. This turned it to snow instantly. The video has shots in real time and shots in infrared to show the water leaving the objects hot then dissipating in the cold air without touching the ground.
