I loaded this video as a motivation to students who are learning the location of each state. If this tiny little girl can point to the various states on a puzzle, SO CAN YOU! The following quote is from the little girl's mom. "I was amazed the day she put together this whole 84 piece puzzle by herself. Now she's naming the States! I can't keep up with her! " Run time 01:40.

The flag of Ohio is shown flying against a blue sky. Ohio's state flag was adopted in 1902. The Ohio burgee, or swallowtail design, was designed by John Eisemann. The large blue triangle represents Ohio's hills and valleys, and the stripes represent roads and waterways. The 13 stars grouped about the circle represent the original states of the union; the 4 stars added to the peak of the triangle symbolize that Ohio was the 17th state admitted to the union. The white circle with its red center not only represents the "O" in Ohio, but also suggests Ohio's famous nickname, "The Buckeye State". Listen to the state of Ohio anthem, which is “Beautiful Ohio” by Mary Earl, original lyrics by Wilbert McBride. With this video you can see the flag and hear the anthem. Good for all students.

The flag of Indiana is shown against a blue sky. The field of the flag is blue with nineteen stars and a flaming torch in gold or buff. Thirteen stars are arranged in an outer circle, representing the original thirteen states; five stars are arranged in a half circle below the torch and inside the outer circle of stars, representing the states admitted prior to Indiana; and the nineteenth star, is larger than the others and represents Indiana. The outer circle of stars are arranged so one star appears directly in the middle at the top of the circle, and the word "Indiana" is placed in a half circle over and above the star representing Indiana and midway between it and the star in the center above it. Flag adopted 1917. State song, “On the Banks of the Wabash, Far Away” by Paul Dresser. With this video you can see the flag and hear the anthem. Good for all students.

Around the state seal is a wreath of the state flower, the lady slipper. Three dates are woven into the wreath: 1858, the year Minnesota became a state; 1819, the year Fort Snelling was established; and 1893, the year the official flag was adopted. In 1776, members of Congress believed a formal plan was needed to unify the colonies, secure foreign assistance, and formally declare America's break from England. Thomas Jefferson prepared the formal Declaration of Independence, after which Congress called the colonies to draft new state constitutions. Although the Articles of Confederation left the central government weak, it empowered the states, which expanded political participation through their individual charters.
