Part one of the Learning Zone's program on the English Civil War. This first part covers the background to the war including Charles I's character, his portraits and his execution. There is reference to Charles I's family, images of the palaces and pieces or art Charles had and to the role of theatre plays of the time. The video explains Charles I's belief on the divine rights of Kings. The Parliament started to have problems with the king. The attempt to imprison the 5 members of royal opposition ends up with declaration of war.
