Leek doesn't like the rain falling on his leaves, which is not a good thing when you're one of the only things left in the veggie patch in rainy March. He searches fruitlessly for somewhere to hide from the rain, but all the good places are used up by other people who are really enjoying the rain and mud. Eventually the rain stops and he realizes that the rain has actually cleaned and shined up his leaves. (02:03)

But Nick still doesn't know what to think when Dad leaves town to walk off the weight and pursue some destiny that doesn't seem to include the rest of the family. Meanwhile, The Scoot, Nick's best friend, is dying from an incurable disease. And Scooter's last wish is crazy: find his own long-lost father and return the signed first edition of Of Mice and Men that his father gave him before he took off.

In this Schoolhouse Rock video, students will learn basic concepts about gravity. Gravity is like a magnet deep in the ground. Some of the lyrics include the following: Down, down, down, down gravity. Helpin' wash the dishes And I drop a cup. Why does everything fall down Instead of up? Ridin' up a hill I spill And hit the ground.
Wish I could fall up instead of always falling down.Down, down, down, down. This is a fun teaching resource for introducing and/or reinforcing the concept of gravity in the classroom. (03:00)

In this video segment from Between the Lions, Cliff hears a sneezing zebu and engages in conversations with him. The zebu explains that he is a bull that comes from Asia and has “snazzy-looking horns!” Cliff is pulled up to safety by grabbing the zebu's horns. Cliff is temporarily rescued from the cliff but mistakenly offers the zebu a red hanky (to wipe his nose). The zebu’s bull like tendencies are triggered by the color red. He charges Cliff — causing Cliff to fall back off of the cliff. The letter "z" is featured in this video. This video segment provides a resource for Fluency, Phonics, Text Comprehension, Letter Knowledge Awareness, and Phonological Awareness. (2:24)

This quick sketch of snapshots from the life of Edna Buckman Kearns goes from childhood through Votes for Women or suffrage activism in New York City. Edna is best known for her suffrage campaign wagon, the "Spirit of 1776" that was used for suffrage organizing in New York City and Long Island. Suffrage Wagon News Channel celebrates women's freedom to vote. What to know more about how the 19th amendment to the US Constitution came to be? It involved long and difficult work from the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848 through to 1920 with the Susan B. Anthony amendment. Women voters today owe much to the tens of thousands of suffrage activists like Edna Kearns. (00:56)

In this video segment adapted from Interactive NOVA, mountain-climber Rob Taylor gives a harrowing account of his failed attempt to scale the peak of Africa's Mount Kilimanjaro. Because it is a free-standing mountain — the tallest in the world — climbers must ascend from the base through several climate zones before reaching the arctic summit. After being rescued from a fall near the summit, Taylor thought his worst problems were behind him when an unanticipated consequence of his descent to warmer temperatures presented an equally dangerous challenge. Closed captioning included. (04:42)

This video from The Rise and Fall of Jim Crow identifies two major leaders in the African American community during the era of Jim Crow: Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois. By the turn of the 20th century, Washington was an incredibly popular figure who, among many accomplishments, had become the leader of the Tuskegee Institute and started the National Business League. Washington maintained that African Americans could achieve economic progress and spiritual growth but only by accepting the confines of Jim Crow. Du Bois, on the other hand, attacked Washington’s methodology publicly and emphasized the importance of intellectual rigor and equality for African Americans in all aspects of American life, with no exceptions. Nowhere were his verbal assaults on Washington as strong as in his 1903 book The Souls of Black Folk. Run time 03:28.

Ever wonder why we have seasons? A lot of people think it's because the Earth gets further away from the sun in winter, and closer in the summer. But, it's actually more interesting than that. In this episode of Crash Course Kids, Sabrina talks about how the Earth's tilt is responsible for Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. This first series is based on 5th-grade science. (03:56)

Galileo used thought experiments to test many assumptions, including the notion that heavy objects fall more quickly than lighter objects when they are dropped. Lacking access to either a vacuum chamber or a planetary body that has no atmosphere, he nevertheless correctly predicted that all falling objects would accelerate at the same rate in the absence of air resistance. In this video segment from NASA, astronaut David Scott demonstrates the correctness of Galileo's prediction. (00:47)
