Oscar Wilde Bio 5
From YouTube, produced by A & E Biography
A&E Biography.  Video starts with Wilde’s libel court case against the Marquess of Queensberry, Bosie’s father.  This court case concerns the Marquess wanting to socially embarrass Wilde by throwing a bouquet of turnips on the stage after one of his plays.  Wilde was tipped off, and Queensberry was barred from entering the theatre.  In court, Wilde put on a performance to fend off the questions.  They started to give evidence against Wilde, and Wilde drops the case.  On April 5th, Wilde was arrested for gross indecency under the criminal law amendment.  At the time of his arrest, Wilde was famous but he was deep in debt.  His name was removed from play bills, shunned by London society, and his belongings auctioned off to pay his debts.  Everyone told him to flee London.  Video is of good quality and appropriate for high school students.

Students will enjoy the close up shots of this amazing fish swimming at the bottom of the ocean. The Malabar grouper is a robust marine fish, with a brownish head and long body. The body is covered with small blackish-brown spots, which increase in number with age, and scattered whitish spots and blotches. Five irregular dark brown bars are often visible on the body. Public Perceptions of Privacy
From worldsciencefestival.com, produced by World Science Festival 2011
Would you give somebody your bank PIN for a candy bar? Cryptanalyst Orr Dunkelman tells the cryptography panel about a surprising study that found that most people would. Why is that? Perhaps because this bit of information is just one part of a system that may also require their
name, address, card number, and so on, they assume it is safe to share this one detail. But in today’s information-based world, where much of one’s personal information is available at the click of a mouse, is such an assumption so safe?  (04:02)

Academies Raise the Bar at a Comprehensive High School
From edutopia.org, produced by George Lucas Educational Foundation
Dave Hackett is a master of illusion. The juniors in his science class at the Manufacturing Production Technology Academy (MPTA) of Laguna Creek High School, in Elk Grove, California, are too busy launching and chasing the rockets they made in class to notice they're actually learning physics. Hackett's class is part of a high school innovation movement known as career academies. They're small schools, located within larger comprehensive high schools, and they integrate academics with technical know-how in an occupation or industry that has important ties to the local region: renewable energy, health and science, agriculture, or, in the case of MPTA, computer-aided design and manufacturing. However, with this video, one can get a head start with some of the vocabulary words. The words are highlighted by a transparent red bar or red circle. The words are said once by a native speaker and there is no English definition, but the red indicators tell you what the words mean. (01:45:21)
