Gravel Springs Mississippi Fife and Drum Music Traditions
From folkstreams.net, produced by Davis Evans, Bill Ferris, Judy Peiser
A compelling and award-winning portrait of Othar Turner, his music and their role in the Gravel Springs community. The film not only demonstrates how to make a cane fife, but also gets to the heart of both Turner and his fife and drum music as he's shown performing at an annual Fourth of July picnic. Quick cuts between dancing band members and the rhythmic movements of Turner's family going about their daily chores capture the mounting excitement and provide a rare, revealing glimpse of the work and play that characterize this traditional rural Mississippi society. NASA | Take a "Swift" Tour of the Andromeda Galaxy
From YouTube, produced by NASA
NASA's Swift satellite has acquired the highest-resolution view of the neighboring spiral galaxy M31. Also known as the Andromeda Galaxy, M31 is the largest and closest such galaxy to our own. It's more than 220,000 light-years across and lies 2.5 million light-years away in the constellation Andromeda. Between May 25 and July 26, 2008, Swift's Ultraviolet/Optical Telescope (UVOT) acquired 330 images of M31 at wavelengths of 192.8, 224.6, and 260 nanometers. The images represent a total exposure time of 24 hours. Some 20,000 ultraviolet sources are visible in the image, including M32, a small galaxy in orbit around M31. Dense clusters of hot, young, blue stars sparkle in the disk beyond the galaxy's smooth, redder central bulge. Star clusters are especially plentiful along a ring about 150,000 light-years across. Inside the diamond, the flag recognizes the importance of commerce{the ship}and agriculture{wheat, corn, the ox and the farmer}to the state. Tribute is also paid to the revolutionary war soldiers. The words in the ribbon banner read Liberty and Independence.  The state anthem is “Our Delaware” written by George B. Hynson and composed by M. S. Rembrandt's Paintings
From YouTube
Rembrandt was a master of chiaroscuro (the effects of light and light's contrasts) and it shows in these paintings. Many different works are displayed but there is no explanation about the pictures.

Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn was born on July 15, 1606, in Leiden, the Netherlands. His father was a miller who wanted the boy to follow a learned profession, but Rembrandt left the University of Leiden to study painting. His early work was devoted to showing the lines, light and shade, and color of the people he saw about him. He was influenced by the work of Caravaggio and was fascinated by the work of many other Italian artists. When Rembrandt became established as a painter, he began to teach and continued teaching art throughout his life.

Earhart Plane
From pbslearningmedia.org, produced by History Detectives
THE DETECTIVE: Elyse Luray THE PLACE: San Jose, California THE CASE: July 2, 1937: newspapers all over the world report the same event: Amelia Earhart’s airplane disappears over the pacific. The disaster and presumed death of the beloved 39 year-old heroine gripped the public. For decades historians have debated how and where the aviator disappeared. Both scientific and more fanciful theories abound: some surmise she landed on uninhabited Gardner Island. Others suggest she was captured and executed by the Japanese. Less scrutinized is an accident she had four months earlier, during take-off for her around-the-world flight. Did that crash somehow contribute to Earhart’s disappearance? Over seventy years later, History Detectives investigates whether a fragment of metal is from the missing plane. (15:56)
