Pilgrims in America
From history.com, produced by History.com
Some 100 people, many of them seeking religious freedom in the New World, set sail from England on the Mayflower in September 1620. That November, the ship landed on the shores of Cape Cod, in present-day Massachusetts. A scouting party was sent out, and in late December the group landed at Plymouth Harbor, where they would form the first permanent settlement of Europeans in New England. These original settlers of Plymouth Colony are known as the Pilgrim Fathers, or simply as the Pilgrims. (02:37)

The Mayflower
From history.com, produced by History Channel
This video was about the events that led to the Mayflower and the tough voyage across the sea to get to the New World. When winter came there, many died because they did not know how to survive. Though later, the Pilgrims made the Plymouth colony and it was the start of United States. Fast paced. Makes an excellent example of what students can do with a comic book, although this one was obviously done by a professional.

Epic Poetry and Allegory
From howstuffworks.com, produced by Discovery
On Discovery Channel's "Assignment Discovery," viewers learn more about literary genres as they regard epic poetry and allegory. The video moves rapidly and having  a word list would be helpful for students. Various classic poems are mentioned where prior knowledge would be beneficial. Poems include: Dante's Inferno, Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, Milton's Paradise Lost, Aesop's Fables, and Pilgrims Progress. The graphics aren't good, but the narrative is worthwhile. (02:28)

Chaucer and the Medieval Period - clip only
From YouTube, produced by The Phoenix Learning Group, Inc.
This is the beginning of an older filmed-for-the-classroom narrated documentary.  It introduces Middle English literature and The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer and gives an overview of the pilgrims as a cross section of medieval society.  Sound quality is strained. Shows a large antique edition of the book and a filmed reenactment of people in period costume eating a meal together at a large inn table.  (1:39 min.)

When is Thanksgiving? Colonizing America: Crash Course U.S. History #2
From YouTube, produced by crashcourse
In which John Green teaches you about the (English) colonies in what is now the United States. He covers the first permanent English colony at Jamestown, Virginia, the various theocracies in Massachusetts, the feudal kingdom in Maryland, and even a bit about the spooky lost colony at Roanoke Island. What were the English doing in America, anyway? Lots of stuff. In Virginia, the colonists were largely there to make money. In Maryland, the idea was to create a a colony for Catholics who wanted to be serfs of the Lords Baltimore. In Massachusetts, the Pilgrims and Puritans came to America to find a place where they could freely persecute those who didn't share their beliefs. But there was a healthy profit motive in Massachusetts as well. Profits were thin at first, and so were the colonists. Trouble growing food and trouble with the natives kept the early colonies from success. (12:25)
