Gilded Age: 1873-1876: The Panic of 1873
From lib.niu.edu
You need to click on watch video button. The Panic of 1873
was caused by the failure of Jay Cooke's investment house, which funded a lot of the Union effort in the Civil war.  During this time, many became deep in debt and unemployed. During this time, Chicago's People's Party and Socialist Party frequently got into disagreements. Also, the close election of Rutherford B. Hayes took place. This five minute video explains who Cooke's actions started to impact the nation and resulted in a depression. A good video that explains the cause and effect of the Panic. Has a script that follows the video.

Napoleon and Russia
From YouTube, produced by Discovery
Napoleon Bonaparte's invasion of Russia in 1812 is the centerpiece of this six-minute video and deals with its cause and effect. Napoleon Bonaparte had raised the largest army that Europe had ever witnessed and wielded it to conquer much of the European landmass. In 1812, Napoleon's army marched swiftly through Russia,
but couldn't live off the land due to the Russian army's scorched-earth tactics. Eventually, the French reached Moscow, furious to find it deserted and burned to the ground, forcing them to retreat the thousand miles back to France and face the harsh Russian winter. The march resulted in a huge loss of men and ultimately resulted in the destruction of his empire. The video also explains how scientists find evidence of these battles. (06:01)

Henry David Thoreau - At Walden Pond
From awesomestories.com, produced by American Literary Classics
This 3:44 video is an interview with a teacher about how Walden lived and what he wrote. Between 1845 and 1847, Henry David Thoreau decided to spend two years in a small cabin - located in the woods in Concord, Massachusetts, near Walden Pond - to see what it would be like to withdraw from the constant demands and "busyness" of daily life.
As he writes in Walden:
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.  (Thoreau, Walden, Volume 1, page 143.) The lecture is too sophisticated for younger students and does not provide a cause and effect of Thoreau's work.

In this clip, Professor Richard H. Baker - a Transcendentalist scholar - gives an overview of Thoreau and the lessons he tried to learn when living in his Walden-Pond cabin (which no longer exists, in its original form).

Car Invented, World Drastically Changed
From history.com, produced by Modern Marvels
This video reviews the history of the automobile. It offers good images and the impact of Henry Ford. It does not deal with Ford's political connections or the fact that he did not invent the assembly line. It does deal with how his company made vehicles more affordable and its impact of society. French and Indian War: An Overview
From teachertube.com
Beware of political ad that starts video. This is a glorified slide show. It moves very rapidly with little explanation of cause and effect. Touches on some geographical areas and so a map and wordwall are needed. This is a general overview video of 2:40. The ending is very weak and needs more explanation for students.
